Statement
JD Hayworth gave a statement detailing some of the people who helped him pay his legal bills. As a quick recap Hayworth was investigated and subsequently cleared of any wrong doing in his relationship with now convicted fraudster Abramoff.
Due to mudslinging by his political rivals, much of it anonymous, Hayworth was investigated by the Department of Justice. Hayworth was forced to hire lawyers to assist with the lengthy investigation that included tens of thousands of files including computer data, paper correspondence and financial records.
Ultimately Hayworth was cleared of any wrong doing what so ever but not before he lost his seat in Congress. Hayworth used the power of the internet to help him raise funds to cover these legal fees.
Hayworth managed to raise an astonishing one hundred and fifty two thousand towards these legal fees from online contributions and amazing feat. I guess it shows he knows how to make money online, or perhaps not make money online but raise funds online. Shows he has a lot of friends and supporters despite all the nonsense that has been written about him. These contributions went directly to the lawyers who helped clear Hayworth’s name and a small amount went on administering the trust he set up to run the funds.
Hayworth in a bid to prove his transparency even released the names of the individuals who helped him raise the money. He stated transparency has always been key to him in his political life.
His trust campaign attracted four hundred and twenty one contributions with an average dollar value of three hundred and sixty one, so the average contribution was considerable.
I guess this shows that not everyone one runs for the hills at the first smell of trouble and that has got to give us all hope. Hayworth needs congratulating for battling through what can only be described as a nightmare. He certainly knows how to fight back when he needs to.His supporters need a pat on the back for showing you don’t always have to believe in rumours that fly around the place.
I’m sure the rumours will continue to dog Hayworth despite him being vindicated but there is nothing he can do about it, he has got to focus on what he can control and nothing more. What is important is that the record shows he is clean despite a lengthy investigation, how many other politicians would be able to have the same level of scrutiny and come out with nothing to hide. Not many I’m willing to bet. Sad but true.
Ultimately the Department of justice gave Hayworth a clean bill of health regarding his personal activities and his time in office. It was a long road for Hayworth let’s hope he comes out even stronger.
